Veteran Bollywood actor, Girish Karnad breathed his last this morning at 6:30. Karnad was not keeping well since some time and succumbed to multiple organ failure. He died at his residence in Bengaluru. The late actor was also conferred the Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan and had won several accolades for direction in Kannada cinema. While many Bollywood actors took to their social media handles and expressed their grief, PM Narendra Modi too shared a heartfelt message for the actor and said that Girish Karnad will be remembered for his versatile acting. 

While taking it to Twitter, PM Narendra Modi tweeted, "Girish Karnad will be remembered for his versatile acting across all mediums. He also spoke passionately on causes dear to him. His works will continue being popular in the years to come. Saddened by his demise. May his soul rest in peace. 


Film industry people including, Tiger Zinda Hai director, Ali Abbas Zafar, Anupam Kher, Divya Dutta, have also shared their grief on Twitter 

Ali tweeted, "Rest in peace sir #GirishKarnad , man with a golden heart  and fountain of knowledge ❤️ RIP." 


Kher wrote, "Deeply saddened to know about the sad demise of Sh. #GirishKarnad ji. He was a great artist, scholar and a brilliant playwright. My first small appearance in the film Utsav was under his direction. Also acted in both #Tuglaq and #Hayavadan - plays written by him. On Shanti.🙏" 


Dutta tweeted, "RIP #GirishKarnad sir.. one actor whose inherent goodness reflected in his eyes. The thorough gentleman. Exceptional playwright.Swami ratnadeep manthan embedded in my childhood memories. A gem we lost today." 


Talking about his glorious Bollywood career, some of his best work included films like Nishaant (1975), Manthan (1976), Swami (1977) and Pukar (2000). He was seen in a number of Nagesh Kukunoor films, starting with Iqbal (2005), where Karnad's role of the ruthless cricket coach got him critical acclaim. This was followed by Dor (2006), 8 x 10 Tasveer (2009) and Aashayein (2010). He played a key role in movies Ek Tha Tiger(2012). Girish Karnad was last seen in Salman Khan-Katrina Kaif's Tiger Zinda Hai (2017) as RAW Chief, Dr. Shenoy.
